CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute)

CFM is speed of 'air flow' - the amount of air extracted per minute when the fan is running. The amount of CFM needed is generally related to the size of area ventilated. More info on how to choose the right airflow at www.hvi.org/publications/HowMuchVent.cfm

Energy Savings

*Calculations based upon U.S. average retail electricity. Actual results may vary.

Sone Level is how loud the fan is to the human ear. Doubling the sone value means doubling the noise. The average 80 CFM bath fan runs at 0.8~2.5 sones. Delta Breez 80 CFM fans run as low as <0.3 sones. At less than 0.3 sones, the fan is virtually silent.

Why Choose Delta Breez?

Delta Breez offers high quality and top-performing bathroom ventilation fans of varying sizes, airflow levels, and features to fit any budget. Delta Breez fans are designed to control and reduce the moisture in your home to improve indoor air quality and decrease the risk of health problems. All Delta Breez fans are “quiet as a breeze” and ENERGY STAR qualified, which means that they have passed rigorous energy efficiency standards set by the EPA, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Low energy consumption lowers utilities bills and reduced emissions help to protect the environment, which in turn benefit you!

Good value, difficult install
4 Stars
Good value, difficult install
Install:I replaced a much older broken fan. The install was a challenge because this unit did not leave much room for flexibility and the overall housing was much smaller than my old unit. I had to build a custom bracket to fill the gaps and lift the housing up to the previous ducting connection. Overall this is not an amateur install.Sound levelsRefer to the picture I posted. I calibrated my phone microphone to 0dB prior to taking measurements. Notice a spike in sound around the 15 second mark, that's the click of the fan switch and then notice the dB begin to rise from 0 to around 34. All I can say for sure is that the fan runs about 34dB louder than ambient noise in my bathroom. It is quieter than the old fan but not the quietest fan I have.

I replaced all three of the far-too-often-used junk Broan 688/689 fans in my house with one SLM70 and two SLM50s.

Actually, I purchased a super quiet (and fairly expensive) 80cfm Panasonic fan at first, but then realized there's no room for it in the attic due to the proximity to other structures, including the furnace.

Delta SLM-series are exact same size as Broan 688/689 fans, uses the same 3" pipe, and even the vent is located at the same location as the Broan fans. I imagine it was intentionally designed that way.

Some reviewers wrote that the job can be done from under the ceiling. If you're installing a new fan, or if the existing fan is not screwed into the joist from the side panels (two wings in the enclosure), then it's probably possible. But if the two wings are screwed into the joist, I don't see how you can unscrew them from under the attic without enlarging the hole on at least one side. One side may be reachable through the vent hole after you temporarily remove the fan module from the enclosure. I planned to replace all three fans at the same time, so I went all out and did it from the attic. I even caulked the corners to make it as air tight as possible.

Tip: Remove the fan module before installation, and then reinstall it after the enclosure and wiring are in place. It's much easier to work with the light-weight enclosure, and you also avoid damaging the fan module. It also allows you to screw the enclosure to a joist from under the ceiling.

I was shocked to read Broan's own spec sheet stating that their 50cfm model consumes 108 watts!!! Their 60cfm model? 180 watts! I assume those are measured with the fan in open air environment, but still, those are some shocking numbers! No wonder they're so noisy. The motors on the Delta fans are marked 16 watts (SLM70) and 8 watts (SLM50). Actual power consumption is lower under non-zero static pressure environment. Delta spec states 13.1 and 11.5 watts for SLM70 with 0.1 and 0.25 static pressure, moving 70cfm and 54cfm respectively.

I used SLM50s in a small toilet-only room and in a small laundry room. Plenty good enough for those uses. The SLM70 was installed into a small bathroom with a tub+shower. Due to the convoluted path the vent pipe takes, it's not able to move anywhere close to 70cfm, but it is barely enough to keep up with a hot shower. Note I live in a desert climate (dry all year long). I imagine it won't be enough in a humid climate. Remember, the vent pipe design is almost as important, if not more important, than the fan's cfm rating. Regardless, it is no worse than the Broan 688/689 for sure, so keep that in mind.

Finally, quietness is somewhat subjective because noise level numbers don't say anything about the quality of the noise.

These slim Delta fans aren't the quietest fans in the world, but I believe they are the quietest given their small profile size. And quiet they are! I do not hear the fan at all while I'm taking a shower. And the noise they make is mostly just smooth fan noises, instead of the irritating rattly rumble of the Broan fans. Basically, I'm loving these. Sure if I could, I'd love to have the <0.3 sones rated fan, but given the space constraint, I have no complaints at all with these fans.

Works great, quiet and easy to install. Fits perfectly in a 2"x4" wall/ceiling. At first, it was so quiet I didn't think it was working, but I held a tissue below it and it sucked it up right against the vent. I recently had some drips of water come out of it on an extreme cold day, but I believe it's because of my placement choice directly above my tub, and how I ran the vent tube slightly uphill before venting it outside. Would definitely recommend and buy again.

It wasnt a bad install, I put it in a similar sized vent hole to replace an old one thats plastic cover broke and was unreplaceable. I thought the wires to connect where a bit long, I also wish they where wago connectors. A clamp to hold the incoming power would have been nice. My biggest issue is the like 10 second wind up for the fan before it actually turns on. I don't know why it does it. But it made it seem like it failed to work at first, I'm also afraid guests will flip it back off after nothing happens.
When it is working, it sounds great, by that I mean its very quite. It is quite enough you don't hear it in the shower or hear it much in the next room. That's what is important.

I recently replaced the exhaust fan in our master bath with a different brand fan. It was super quiet, expensive and a real pain to install.
This Delta Breez fan was 1/3 the price, nearly as quiet and much easier to install.
I was replacing the "builder" fan in our half bath and was able to replace it from below rather than crawling into the attic to install it. It was about an inch wider than the original so I had to cut the opening a bit wider. The grill is quite a bit larger than the fan box, so it is very forgiving if you do a less than perfect job of fitting the fan in place.
I have one more fan to replace, I'll be buying another one of these for that job.

The builder installed basic Broan exhaust fans in our home and I never thought much about them except to notice that they were quite noisy. Recently, the motor on one died and I chose this Delta Breez SLM70 because it was the same 7.25 inch x 7.5 inch size as the Broan.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that not only did it look better on the ceiling but it also ran so much quieter. I had an electrician install it and he pointed out that it had a little green LED light inside to indicate that it was on since it quiet enough to forget.

I have attached a short video comparing the sound of the builder installed Broan that I have installed in another bath with the new Delta Breez. It is such an improvement that I don’t plan to wait until the other motors burn out to replace them all.

The greatest fan I've ever had. After 20 + years remodeling bathrooms and buying my fans from big box stores I now realize the box stores have duped me. If the big box stores put this on the shelf at this price they would not sell any other fan. Seriously, this Delta fan is very powerful @ 70cfm yet very quiet, very small yet only needs a 3" duct (70CFM typically needs a 4" duct in the big box stores around me). And it can be mounted on the wall, unlike most others (the fan-bearing will burnout on you). I will be putting this fan in all my bath remods until the day I retire. The big box stores are just not interested in giving you the best product/price, its all about branding and profits.......

It's quiet and it works. Not sure what else you need out of a bathroom fan. Install was a little tricky, but mostly because of how the previous fan was installed.
